Flooring by Trowel and Error

The Cavalry's vinyl floor has been installed! Very exciting times. Here's where it started:

A wood-look vinyl flooring piece with a rubber mat in the shape of a cargo van floor on top.

Well, really it started with me sweeping out the garage so this wouldn't be unmanageably full of little maple helicopter seed things. Then I rolled out the vinyl remnant that we bought a little while ago and put the floppy floor mat that the van came with on top to use as a template. I marked a little larger than the floppy floor mat, for a rough cut of the flooring.

Fun fact: we chose this one because it was the closest to the size we needed, not because of the design (well, except I didn't want something super light which would show dirt very easily), but it's pretty nice!

What we ended up was intentionally rather too large:

This is so the final cut can be done in place:

I'm not super good at this, to be honest, but I think we'll be alright. Most of the edges will be behind walls and under cabinets and suchlike. I'm also not super good at the applying-the-glue part. Or at taking pictures of it, apparently. It was while I was applying the adhesive with a notched trowel and being very sticky and messy about it that my fabulous construction companion coined the name of our theoretical amateur flooring company: Trowel and Error.

Even for all the awkwardness of the process, though, it came out very nice! I'm quite happy with it.

The glue needs a bit to cure without being harassed, so Melinda will just be chillin for a few days. I am hoping that since the weather is pretty cool still right now, the glue will set up well.

Here's a bonus photo of the floor close-up. Kind of a stranded wood thing going on, I think?

Next step: electrical!
